13th Annual Blairfoot Bananza
October 7 & 8, 2000
Crowns New World Endurance Male and Female Champion
Billy Nichols and Sharon Remy beat out the field of over 70 barefooters to
be crowned the male and female World Endurance Champions this past weekend on
Winter Haven’s Lake Silver.
The increasingly popular event once again drew skiers from all around the
world, to compete in the endurance and figure eight competition. The
endurance event testing strength and stamina, against the clock. The
figure-eight competition pitted two barefooters against each other in a head
to head format.
The winners of each division in the endurance and figure eight battled it out
for the title of World Endurance champion. With Billy Nichols age 36 of
Ocala, Florida winning the men’s title and Sharon Remy age 31 of Orlando,
Florida winning the female’s title.
For the second year in a row the team endurance competition was held with 5
teams of 14 competitors each. Each team named after something special in
Banana George Blair’s life, Team Yellow, Team Banana, Team Captiva, Team
Mercury and Team Hermes, with Banana George’s Team Banana taking the team
title.
The event was hosted by the Lakeland Ski Club, City of Winter Haven Leisure
Services Department and Polk County, Central Florida Sports Marketing. A
special thank you goes out to all the event sponsors; Ski Sanger, H J
Watertoys, Bartow Motorcycle & Polaris, Barefoot International, and US Gear.
The event was sanctioned by USA Water Ski as part of the National Barefoot
League.
