The Jane Bubear Cancer Fighting Fund

Jane Bubear is a very familiar figure within the British Water Ski community. Having first taken to the water at the age of three, she spent most of her formative years during the 70's at Ruislip, in the company ski legends including, Mike Hazlewood and John Battleday.

In 1982 she eventually achieved European Jump and Overall Ladies Champion at the age of 18. Thereafter, she has remained in contact with the sport, with her friends at Princes benefiting from her cheeky grin and bubbly personality over more recent years.

Last year, Jane was diagnosed with Cancer, and after a tough battle, seemed to have defeated the terrible disease. Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, it was confirmed that the cancer has returned, leaving Jane with her greatest challenge ever.

From experience, the "contemporary" forms of treatment do not appear to have worked for her. So, this time, Jane has chosen an holistic system approach through diet. This will be expensive and her friends have therefore decided to attempt to raise funds towards her treatment.

HOW LOW CAN THEY GO?

To help Jane with her fight, Jodi Fisher, Jeremy Newby-Ricci and Matt Southam staged a special event last Saturday:

* Starting on a13m line, decreasing to 14, 16, then 18m

* Then back- to- back passes at reducing speeds - until they drop!

* Buoy scores for all three to give a combined total with a target of 180 buoys!

HOW LOW DID THEY GO?

For those of you that didn't make it to Princes on Saturday, our three skiers did Jane proud!

Matt Southam opened the bidding running deep into 18, mph. that is, not metres. Jeremy Newby-Ricci followed, with his Foster-Grant shades helping him to sniff the gate at 16 mph. Finally, Jodi Fisher took up the challenge, achieving an under-water one-ball at 16 mph. All told, this gave us a grand total of 233 buoys, and three ski heroes suffering from exhaustion.

All told, the event will raise more than £8,000 based on the sponsorship figures.

For those of you that have pledged sponsorship, or wish to make a donation, please send your cheques, payable to The Jane Bubear Fund, for Matt Southam's attention at Princes Club, Clockhouse Lane, Bedfont, Mddx. TW14 8QA. In the meantime, on Jane's behalf, many, many thanks for your support, with a particular thank you to Matt, Jez and Jodi for their help.
