Gavin Kelly.
Gavin will be a great asset to British Water Ski, although following on from on Gill Hill will be a tall order for anyone! Gavin is currently an international tournament judge and has just managed to get back on the water himself after a hip replacement operation.
Gavin's initiation into tournament officiating came when Gill Hill persuaded him to help out one day and be back-up timer in the boat, he was really thrown in at the deep end there, as the automatic timing system failed! Gavin was elected to the management committee in 1994 and has been treasurer of British Water Ski for a few years until recently and so has a good knowledge of the business side British Water Ski already. Gavin has also been involved in kneeboarding.
The other disciplines under British Water Ski will also benefit from Gavin's knowledge. Gavin's sense of humour will I'm sure assist him for a lot of it, his skill in telling jokes, and fooling everyone into thinking he is just telling a serious story is quite unique.
Everyone knows that Gill Hill's shoes will be very difficult to fill. Gill is a very unique person who knows everything, (or is very good at giving that impression!), and her presence around the circuit will be very sorely missed.
Who is now going to have drinks in their room after the bar in the hotel has shut??!!. Does Gavin realise that he may also have to don some rubber gloves, get a bottle of bleach and scrub the showers at Thorpe?!
Gavin said in a recent issue of Waterski and Wakeboard: "I get the chance to work and play with a great bunch of people, it's a sport that involves people of all ages and abilities, and it's fun".
Let's hope he still feels that way, when he's had a few weeks working at The Tower.
