PlanetWaterSki:
This year we have seen many articles on the world rankings list. Where do you think we should go ???
Jaret:
I try not to pay too much attention to all the lists, it hurts my head!
I think they need to have a pro list and an amateur list. All the lists
right now are all amateur. Amateur list should be based off performances and
pro events should be based off price money.
Pro Athletes are chasing a point
system not money, making them amateur. Pro Events are inviting skiers to
their events based off amateur lists?! Invitations should go off the pro
list until the list runs out, then go to the amateur list.
PlanetWaterSki:
How much would it have meant to you to beat Patrice for the overall title???
Jaret:
He was a great skier and hard to beat because he was so consistent. Beating
him at the US Open and the US Masters a few times are great memories. I had great
respect for Patrice's talent as one of the greatest skiers of all time, but
as for a competitor and a contributor to the sport I would not put him on
one of my lists. I should leave it at that.
PlanetWaterSki:
As defending world overall and jump champion, how is your confidence/body going to the Worlds ???
Jaret:
I have had an up and down year dealing with injuries that have been hard to
shake. This passed month has been very hectic with traveling. Not leaving a
lot of time for good overall training. Had a little hiccup last weekend at
the Canadian Nationals and landed on my head. Bit sore, which has slowed
down the training program I had planned.
Overall is the hardest event to
win. With balancing all the events and making sure the body is going to hold
together you can never tell how things are going to turn out. I guess that
is what makes the whole journey so exciting!!
PlanetWaterSki:
Two years ago I made a comment to Andy Mapple that 2001 would most likely be
his last worlds.
He soon put me right! What are your plans for the next few years ???
Jaret:
I'd like to keep pushing for a couple of years on the professional scene and
see how the body is doing. Over the years I have been doing more and more
clinics around the world. As I back off from the professional tour my
availably will allow me to do more of those.
I have been working on a web
site, which will open at the end off the year. Hopefully this will open up a
few new areas for me. A big Dream is to develop at sport complex, but to
commit to this project is a huge deal for us and we are still on the fence
with this!
PlanetWaterSki:
Tell me about your development work with your sponsors.
Jaret:
My relationship with my sponsors is what is really exciting for me at this
point in my career. Joining the CorrectCraft family has been refreshing.
They are concerned with how we are doing and want to know what we are
thinking. The big bonus is working with Andy Mapple. He is THE legend, on
and off the water.
Goodman skis, put me on the podium the first event I ever
skied on them. Followed by four tour wins and my first world jump title, all
in a row! Why would you ski on any thing else? Ron Goodman loves water
skiing and it shows in his passion to make the best skies for every skier
that rides his boards.
