21 and Under World Waterski Championships 2003 - Chile - Wednesday
The first day went well here in Santiago, with no real surprises. The Opening Ceremony took place at the lake, (for once before the
competition had started!), and was followed by the ladies slalom preliminaries.
As it turned out, all the skiers that got a score at 12m or above qualified for the final. This must have been very hard for Megan
Ross (NZL) who missed her gates on her 12m pass and just missed qualifying.
Michelle Simpson (USA) had a very close gate on her 13m pass, but after a review by the judges, continued to score 1.5 at 11.25m.
Five skiers achieved a score on the 11.25m rope length, with Regina Jaquess (USA) scoring the most with 2.5 @ 11.25m.

One of the best performances has to have been from Whitney McClintock (CAN), who scored 1.5 @ 11.25m and has only just turned 14
years of age. Clementine Lucine (FRA) and Breanne Wagner (CAN) both scored 1 @ 11.25m.

Nicole Arthur (GBR) scored the most buoys on the 12m line, although she looked like she would run the pass, she fell around 5 and
scored 4.5 @ 12m. (I'm sure she will run 12m in the final).
Tomorrow is the mens slalom and ladies tricks. We are especially looking forward to watching Will Asher (GBR) and Jimmy Siemers
(USA), after their brilliant performances at the World Championships in Florida.
