21 and Under World Waterski Championships 2003 - Chile - Sunday
Great day here today. Weather really hot and slight headwind on the ramp for the jump finals.
The ladies jump final was especially exciting, with quite a few changes from the finishing order of the preliminaries and a re-ride
due to a self-lowering ramp!. Stinne Sondergard (DEN), or Stinky as everyone calls her, was out fourth and jumped an equal PB of
47.7m. This wasn't beaten until the seventh skier, Kelly Bowen (AUS), who jumped 49.5m, exceeding her PB by 2.6m and producing the
longest ladies jump recorded on the site.
The following skier Lisa Zettining (AUT), also jumped a PB of 46.9m. Lisa had a bad crash
on her last jump, but managed to climb onto the rescue boat and bow to the clapping crowd. None of the following 3 skiers managed to
jump further than Kelly, including Clementine Lucine (FRA), who jumped 45.4m. Even Regina Jaquess (USA) only managed to jump enough
to take silver with 48.8m This meant that a delighted Kelly took Gold, Regina second and Stinky third, with Lisa not far behind in
fourth.
In the mens jump final, Eric Marberg (SWE), out fifth failed to score as he lost the handle on all four jumps, (one re-ride), he
was so angry that he threw his helmet onto the shore! Lance Green (NZL), followed with a jump of 60m, which wasn't bettered until
the ninth skier Rodrigo Miranda (CHI), who jumped 60.1m, followed by Will Asher (GBR), who, despite a stomach bug, jumped 60.9m.
This was only beaten by Jimmy Siemers (USA) and Ryan Dodd (CAN), who jumped 69m and 67.8m respectively. Hence, Jimmy won gold, Ryan
silver and Will bronze.

The presentations for slalom, tricks and jump were made at lunchtime, followed by the overall finals.

The overall finals, as usual, became exciting in the final jump round. Good scores in the slalom and tricks were Regina - 3 @ 11 in
slalom and 7520 in tricks and Jimmy Siemers 10770 in tricks.
Going into the ladies jump, Regina Jaquess (USA) was first, Clementine Lucine (FRA) second, Tarah Benzl (USA) third and Megan Ross
(NZL) fourth. By the time Regina jumped, she needed 43.6m to take the gold. This, Regina managed on her first jump of 46.3m.
Although, she had already won the overall with this jump, she took another jump of 46.4m before coming in to the dock. This she
did, because when she won the overall at the worlds in Florida, it was on her last jump and she didn't have the chance to jump again
and enjoy it, so this time she enjoyed the moment more. The final results were the same as going in to the jump round.

Going into the mens jump, Jimmy Siemers (USA) was first, Joffrey Malaquin (FRA) second, Rodrigo Miranda (CHI) third and Ryan Dodd
(CAN) fourth. Rodrigo jumped 59.9m putting him ahead of Joffrey who jumped first. Ryan out next jumped 66m putting him ahead of
Rodrigo. It was all up to Jimmy, who needed 58.9m for gold. His first jump of 62.3m was enough for this and he returned to the dock,
finishing first.
The final team results are first - USA, second - Australia, third - France, fourth - New Zealand and fifth - Great Britian.

The final night party was in an excellent restaurant, although it didn't start until 11pm, due to the late running of the competition.
The coach from the hotels was absolutely packed with most people standing and the Australia team making the most impact with their
chorus's of Ogi, Ogi Ogi! The presentations of the overall and team took place and then the usual partying began!
A fantastic competition, with a great atmosphere, great site and great skiing. Thanks to Waldo Miranda for offering his site for the
second time in a year and for his hospitality.
