First out in the final was Jesper CASSOE setting an early mark of 64.8m (213 ft) and the Ryan Green who jumped 65.3m (214 ft). At this point I knew we were in for some long distances with conditions fairly good.
Curtis SHEERS was the next to take the lead with 67.2m (220 ft) until Freddy Krueger took to the water and put up a 68.3 meter jump to take over the lead.
This was a lead the he maintained as both Jimmy Siemers and Jaret could not match.
Scot Ellis failed to continue his first round form only jumping 58.1m

21st September 2003
After being set a 49.6m target by Marina Mosti, Emma Sheers stepped up and produced a jump of 51.1m to ensure she takes the gold medal in her favourite event.
Regina Jaquess still buzzing from her overall win secured herself the bronze medal jumping 48.1m.

20th September 2003 - MENS SLALOM FINAL
Mapple is beaten!
Its not ofter that you see two other British skiers in front of Andy Mapple at a world championship
event, but then again as we have seen today, the wind has made every pass like a different lake.
Young Will Asher takes his first WC medal in silver behind Jeff Rogers with a solid performance
in both rounds, the new king of slalom.
Glenn Cambell and Steve Cockeram in joint 3rd place, but Steve gets the Bronze because of a higher prelim score.
20th September 2003 - LADIES SLALOM FINAL
The strong wind has caused mistakes all round from 5 of the 12 skiers, Karen Truelove, Jill Knutson, Anais Amade, Marina Mosti and Irene Reinstaller all finishing on the 12 metre line or longer.
Great come back by Michel Simpson to score 1.50 @ 10.75m and secure herself bronze medal after scraping into the final in 12 place.
But the glory of gold goes to Emma Sheers with an incredible performance after going out at 14 and then running 13 only to be held up for 10 minutes while a tech problem was sorted out.
Emma then did a warm up on 13 and eventually finished up scoring 3.50 @ 10.75m with what was certainly the strongest wind of the day.

20th September 2003 - MENS TRICK FINAL
A world trick final without Nicolas Le Forestier left the door wide open and many skiers had a chance at the title. Jimmy SIEMERS
took the opportunity and completed 2 great steady passes to edge ahead and prove to be a worthy winner with the highest score of the
event all week 11 660 points.
Silver goes to Russell GAY scoring 10 610 points and Joel WING with the bronze just behind with 10 580 points.
A poor run by Cory only getting 9380 to put him down in 9th place.
Please remember these scores are PROVISIONNAL, with the trick event these scores can change when the skiers and team captains look at the judges scoring!! This happened in Milan when Jaret and Nicolas swapped gold and silver as a result of a review after the event.

20th September 2003 - LADIES TRICK FINAL
Ladies trick final is over. Regina JAQUESS unable to hold on to her first round lead and dropping down to 7th place in the final
round.
That leaves the new ladies world trick champion title to Mandy NIGHTINGALE with 7680 points well ahead of 2nd place
Clementine Lucine on 6970 and Marina MOSTI who increased her score by nearly 1000 points to score 6910 to secure the bronze medal.

Jesper CASSOE jumps 65.8m and Sebastien CANS jumps 60.8m, so that leaves Jesper CASSOE as the 12 place qualifier for the final tomorrow afternoon.
20th September 2003
Mens jump is now finished and that leaves 2 skiers in 12th place, Jesper CASSOE and Sebastien CANS both on 63.30m (207 ft). As a result of this there will be a jump off I suspect.

Outstanding jumping at Clermont with a 69.6m jump from Scot Ellis to lead the field with only series 3 left to go tomorrow morning due to the late hour. I think we can safely say that these 12 are the finalists. We did predict that 65m would be needed for a final place, 12th place was Jesper Cassoe with 63.3m, so not far out!

That seals up the skiing for today, tomorrow is finals day with ladies tricks first, then mens tricks, ladies slalom and then mens slalom. These are scheduled to start at 10am (1500 GMT) so I think they will run mens jump series 3 first thing say 8am ish.
19th September 2003
Ladies jump just finished with Emma Sheers the only one to go over 50 scoring a best jump of 53.6m ahead of Marina Mosti on 49.6m and June Fladborg with 49.4m.
12th place and the last slot in the final went to Rhoni Barton with 46.4m, a very close event.

Just the mens jump to go then thats it for today.
19th September 2003
Well what a slalom event, for a minute I thought Andy Mapple would miss out on the final having scored 3.50 @ 10.75 m.
Wade Cox missed the final only rounding the second buoy to be given 1.50 @ 10.75m.
Top 3 were all from the States Jamie Beauchesne, Chris Parish and Jeff Rodgers all with 2.00 @ 10.25m
Its 12 that go through to the final so there will be a run off between 7 skiers who are all on 3 @ 10.75m. These 7 will be fighting for 5 places, so 2 will miss out. They are Joel Wing, Wim de Cree, Doug and Drew Ross, Ivan Morris, Glenn Campbell and Fabio Ianni.
Will update you after the run off, could be here all night!

Mens slalom under way, series 3, 2 and 1 this morning. At the end of series 3 the lead has changed with Jimmy Siemers taking top spot scoring 4 @ 11m. I think that looking at the quality line up that 4+ @10.75m will be needed for a final place. With 19 skiers in series one, we can be confident in saying that all 12 finalists will be from this series, barring any shocks!!
18th September 2003
In case you were wondering why the current ladies world jump and overall champion is not here, Elena Milakova had her baby 2 weeks ago.
Also missing for the same reason is Helena Kjellander who gave birth 8 weeks ago.
The real talk of the day is Nicolas Le Forestiers fall early on his toe pass. Nobody is perfect and this is clear here. Nic has consistently knocked out 12 000+ trick runs all year with his eyes closed. Im certain that Nic will be back in China to take the title back off Russell, Cory or Jimmy???
18th September 2003
Not much change with the mens slalom with series 1, 2 and 3 still to go. New leaders are Ryan Dodd with 3 @ 11m and overall skier Ryan Green.
I knew they would have a busy day, seemed like to much to get through. This has set up tomorrow to be the longest day!!
Starting off in the morning with Mens slalom series 1, 2 and 3. Then it's the rest of the jump with ladies series 1 and 2 and mens series 1, 2 and 3.
18th September 2003
Just been told that the series 3 mens slalom will be run on Friday as they are running a bit late today.
18th September 2003
5760 point was needed for the ladies trick final and Cathryn Humphrey from Austrailia took that last slot. Current world champion Regina Jaquess set a tidy score early on to go into the final in 1st place. Close behind was Rhoni Barton with 7210 and Brigitte Lethem with 7120.
No real surprises, buy Angeliki Andriopoulou is not on the results sheet. Don't know if she missed her go, will find out later.
Next up is the final event of the day, the series 3 and 4 slalom.
Click here for all the results and list of finalists.
18th September 2003
Nicolas Le Forestier falls on his first trick leaving him with a single pass to score 6520 point dropping him down to position 21.
Russel Gay leads with 11 310 pionts from Cory Pickos on 11 300 and Jimmy Siemers with 10 680.
Click here for all the results and list of finalists.
18th September 2003
Thats the ladies slalom all finish with the top 3 looking like this, 1st place with 2.25 @ 10.75 m is Emma Sheers and 2nd is Karen Trulove Krueger scoring 1.50 @ 10.75 m, third place with 4.50 @ 11m is Jill Knutson.
The only 2 to clear the 11m line in a very close battle which sees Natalie Hamrick just out side the qualifiers for the final, I am assuming that the first 12 go to the final.
There were no other real surprises.

18th September 2003
Today we see the start of the pros at work with a busy day of slalom and tricks. Ladies top 2 series out first thing followed by the top 2 series of mens and ladies tricks. The afternoon will be rounded off with mens slalom series 3 and 4.
Like we said yesterday, the ladies are looking at 5000 points+ to get in the final and the men potentially its possible to have all the finalists scoring over 10 000 points. But with the skiers putting in conservative runs that are safe to get them a final place, it is most likely to be 9000 points+ for a place.
17th September 2003
Todays events - Ladies Tricks - series 3 and 4 saw Xinyuan Xu from China top the two series scoring 4270. with another 21 skiers to go in the top 2 series, it looks like they will need about 5000 to get in the final. Last year Regina Jaquess took the gold with 7400 pts.
It also looks like the wind is causing problems for the jump event; today they only ran series 4 and 5. Series 3 will run with the top two series on Friday.
The top 3 men were Luke Longnex 54.0m, Lance Green with 53.1m and in 3rd place Jamie Freitas from Portugal leaping 51.8m.
Luke and Lance have put up some tidy scores so far with both of them tricking well, Luke on 6730 pts and Lance on 7360 pts. These two will finish in the top 10 overall !!
These were a lot better jumps considering the state of the wind. I would like to think that 65m will be needed for a final place, we can live in hope!
The ladies jump followed the men with so more tidy jumping 42.7m from Olga Pavlova BLR and with Marjolein Jongpier in second with 41.6m and 3rd Kathrina Peterson with 40.3m. I think that the ladies will need 45m+ for a place in this years final.
Last time Elena Milakova took the jump title with 51.1m.
Thursday will see the start of the pros at work with a busy day of slalom and tricks. Ladies top 2 series out first thing followed by the top 2 series of mens and ladies tricks. The afternoon will be rounded off with mens slalom series 3 and 4. A late finish I suspect !!

It looks like the night jump is on, Saturday evening, will let you have details when it is released officially.
17th September 2003
Looks like we have all the results so far on line, view them plus the starting orders by clicking here.
Todays events are Ladies Tricks - series 3 and 4 first thing and then the Jump event with Men series 3, 4 and 5 folliwed by the ladies with series 3 and 4.
16th September 2003
You have to remember that Florida is 5 hours behind Europe so you have to wait until midnight to get the full details from the site.
It has been difficult to get results, but we took some pics of the results from the notice board. You can see these on the image site or Click here
Some good scores, but to be fair to the skiers, I think the men are going to need to be early 10.25m for the finals. and late 11m for the girls.
16th September 2003
At least one male and one female Greek skier have been seen practicing, so it looks like they may have a team here after all.
There could be some trouble in the trick event. A lot of the skiers are using a "rope only" release mechanism; Saw some skiers use it in practice yesterday - using a piece of rope with a loop on the end.
The loop goes over the pylon, the other end goes thrugh the loop of the trick rope and then somehow round the pylon - it means when released it is done more gently. Although at the jury meeting yesterday it was discussed, because it is possible to let the rope out a bit, without releasing, thus helping the skier to recover sometimes - should be interesting!
Looks like they are not bothering to update the official site today after the first days skiing. Will see what we can get hold of in the way of details about todays skiing.

16th September 2003
Well it looks like all the pre event practice went OK for every body in the end.
There is still a tail wind on the lake for the jump event. If they could just turn that ramp around it would be perfect.
The main event starts tomorrow, Tuesday morning with slalom and tricks, the bottom end series.
Also it looks almost certain that Ryan Fitts will not ski in this event, here is a copy of the post on SkiFly.com made by Ryan
Hey guys
Thanks for all the support. As far as I know I won't be skiing this weekend, I have a lawyer working on things but it probably wont happen quick enough, and USAWS did not submit me as an independent.
The good news is that Sebastian is TRYING to put on a tournament just for the jump finalists Saturday at dusk that I might be able to ski in if he pulls it off.
It sucks to have to sit on the shore and watch this all when I have been jumping so good lately, but I will still be around in china in 2005.
Thanks again for all the support, you guys rock!

15th September 2003
The problems yesterday for the Australian and Austrian teams is that they were double booked for their training (having similar codes, AUS and AUT)
Don't know what is happening with the Greek team this year, there is a split in the country at the moment with some skiers striking!! So far we have seen Angeliki Andriopolu, I think she is here as an individual, but no sign of the team!!
The new ramp is in at the site, the ski ramp was looking a bit worn out, I don't know if the skiers complained, if you look at the new ramp surface you will notice that the 640/670 line is under water and the ramp looks short. This is because they have put the ski fly ramp in which has a much longer length. Im sure Marc Raymond will have them sort it out.
15th September 2003
From Nicolas Le forestier himself:
I'm not tragically hurt as some people mentionned, just paid a visit to Sand Lake Hospital for X Rays after hurting my thumb (that's the thumb I had surgery on twice in 2001 so I was concerned YES), nothing is broken, I didn't even stop skiing, the same evening I was doing toes ok and did hands the next day ... My hand is still a bit swollen but I can ski, do every single trick of my runs and I just feel a bit of pain on one trick : SL5B ...
See the full post and comments on SkiFly.com message board.
Backing these comments up, Nick was seen on the lake skiing with a bandaged hand.

Training not going to plan on site for the Australian team with hold ups and site equipment problems, Ryan Green, Chris Cockburn, Curtis Sheers, Emma Sheers, Joel Wing and Cathryn Humphries. But off site at the Benzel's site in Groveland all is well. Check out the traing report from Sally morris.
14th September 2003
Theres also the question floating around the Internet at the moment concerning Ryan Fitts!! Ryan is the subject of discussion about not being allowed to ski in the worlds by USA Water Ski. There are some harsh remarks spreading some 7 pages last time I looked. SkiFly.com message board. So will we see Ryan in the start list??
13th September 2003
By all reports Nicolas Leforestier's injury is not so bad and will ski next week. He will be boosted by the confirmation by IWSF of his new world trick record of 12 320 points set at Chaugey, France in July.
