Sherri Slone and Jennifer Leachman have been nominated for the Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association (SGMA) HEROES Award for their dedication to facilitating "learn to clinics" throughout the nation on water skiing, wake boarding, boating, trailering, and wind surfing through their efforts with the World of Women's Sports (WOW Sports) Foundation. Slone and Leachman, both world class athletes, developed the WOW Sports Foundation in 1992. In 1995, they also started the WOW Sports Tour, which was instrumental in keeping the professional side of women's water skiing and wake boarding in the media spot light. WOW Sports on Tour produces professional women's sporting events, calendars, an interactive web page and SheSportTV, a television show which aires on Fox Sports Net, Outdoor Life Network, and the Travel Channel. The SGMA HEROES Award program is designed, in partnership with the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association (NSSA), to identify and recognize individuals who, through their voluntary efforts and humanitarian spirit, have enhanced sports participation and opportunities within their local communities and beyond. The winner for state awards will be announced in Mid-October. A selection committee of special NSSA members will then meet to select 10 national finalists, including three national SGMA HEROES Award winners.
